Congratulations on Fonterra. It still seems exceptionally cheap. Trades below book value and 6 PE. I understand the desire to chalk up a huge W, but did you have some temptation to let part of it ride?

I would not have sold all if they would not get rid of the AUD listing. Probably half.

Fonterra is cyclical so do not think current earnings are sustainable. Average earnings will still be good.

The big question is what the divestment will deliver. This can deliver surprises in both ways.

Your timing was good. It’s been a horrible investment since it’s Ipo in 2012. Everyone does well at fonterra incl farmers except the shareholders. I could tell you some stories. Glad you got into at the right time - another milk company Synlait just avoided bankruptcy .. not an easy industry.

I agree that Fonterra takes better care of farmers than shareholders. The international expansion strategy was also very value destructive. It is a shame that the company was so mismanaged. I think the current management is doing an OK job though. Mostly repairing previous mistakes. The new investments in facilities are somewhat worrying though.

The stock is still quite cheap but not an absolute bargain anymore. See more reasons for disappointment at this level.

I was indeed quite lucky with Fonterra in 2024. 2023 was also a decent year for Fonterra with the huge capital returns. Best of luck in 2025!
