Introduction: Why I start writing on Substack
A new blog on investing. My background, what you can expect and my investing journey this far.
I recently moved from The Netherlands to New Zealand. This has given me some time to think on what I want to do next. I started to get serious about investing 10 years ago when I landed a job at investment magazine Beleggers Belangen. I also used to write at Seeking Alpha and LYNX. When corporate life got more serious at Rabobank writing on investing slowly grinded to a halt.
This was partly due to the craziness of the markets and the biases that come from writing. The most important factor however was time.
Substack adventure
Given that the future is uncertain I don’t know how this Substack adventure will evolve. However I’m pretty sure that I would regret it if I did not try. I had some decent ideas (and some horrible ones) from other investors and through this blog I will try to return the favour.
I have had amazing conversations about investing and by writing publicly again I hope to increase those.
Goal
target is to write monthly mostly on specific stocks. If you like this idea and want to follow what I have to say please consider subscribing.
I will sometimes write more broadly about the markets, but feel that most value is added when this information can be related to a specific investment.
Goal is to add to the amazing ecosystem of independent bloggers who share their investment ideas.
In return for me spewing my thoughts in the world wide web it would be great if I could get some in depth feedback. Please do not hesitate to give some.
I especially would like feedback on:
Opportunities for improvement
Ideas for the blog
New great sources for investment ideas

Journey
In my 10 years of investing I have had good results. I mostly beat the market, but especially at the start I got quite lucky with little money and a very concentrated portfolio (hello Admiral, Hunter Douglas and Investor AB).
The last couple years have also been good. In 2023 I’m ahead of the indices, but lacking the reflating technology stocks.
Mistakes have been made as well. I lost money shorting Tesla and invested some money in Russian stocks. However overall the market has been good to me. In this blog I hope to share some of my lessons learned so that you might learn them the easy way.
First company
The first company I will write about is a company on which I wrote before. It is actually the company on with which I started my investment writing career. It is a stock in a company which has multiple ways to win. This is actually one of the things I really like in investing, because the future is usually less predictable than one might imagine. If you subscribe to my blog you will be notified when it comes online.
Naturally all that I write is my own opinion. Please don’t take this as investment advice. I might not know how investments fit your personal situation.
PS: For everyone more interested in my life in New Zealand. Another picture from the mount.
